Sauer & Sohn of Suhl, Prussia, circa 1880, 12 gauge x .32-40 caliber, steel trigger guard with lightly engraved details, serial number engraved behind trigger guard, action/lock plates and hammer are a dull gray with hand engraved embellishments, each side signed "Charles Daly," tang with engraved embellishments and flush set flip top peep sight, European walnut stock with worn checkering, retains what appears to be the original monogrammed hard rubber/gutta percha butt plate, 29-1/4 inch round triple fine Damascus barrel aged a pleasing plum brown color, top barrel flat marked "FINE DAMASCUS" with the underside littered with Prussian proof marks, s#29385. The US importer Charles Daly was a partnership between himself, August Schoverling, and Joseph Gales, briefly they traded under the Schoverling, Daly, and Gales moniker but quickly decided to use the aforementioned Charles Daly. They specialized in importing rifles and shotguns primarily from Suhl in then Prussia but also imported from England and Belgium. The various brands they imported under the Charles Daly name included Heym, Shiller, H. A. Lindner, Sauer, J&W Tolley, Newman and Lefever arms. Drillings measures 45.5 inches in length and weighs approximately 10 pounds; includes soft protective case. NOTE: No in-house shipping available. Action functions for the right shotgun barrel and the switch over to operate the bottom rifle barrel however the left hammer will not lock in place; fine overall cosmetic condition, bright fine bore and rifled barrel with hardly any oxidation, metal surfaces have aged a patchy dull gray to silver, small dings and fine scratches are scattered about the barrel and sides, excellent rear flip sight, stock with worn checkering smooth and without definition in some areas as well as numerous dings and scrapes; excellent trigger guard.
